Manchester United Offer 30-Year-Old In Swap For Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are closing in on a potential cash-only deal for Rasmus Hojlund – but reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed via Caught Offside that the Red Devils nearly sent Fred the other way in exchange.

What is the latest Manchester United transfer news?

With the Red Devils bagging themselves Champions League football for next season after a top four finish in the Premier League, they will need to ensure they are able to compete on all fronts in 2023/24. The Glazers have takent plenty of flak for their lack of ambition but they won't want to settle for mediocrity and will be eager to push on in both the top flight and in their multitude of cup competitions. That will involve the English outfit pulling off numerous transfer deals this summer, to provide the squad with both quality and depth.

It appears as though they will certainly keep busy on the transfer front this summer too. One name that won't be arriving at Old Trafford is Leon Goretzka – it looked like Bayern Munich wanted to sell him on this summer, and that had led to United keeping a close eye on how the situation unravels. The German himself though is keen to stay at the Allianz Arena and doesn't want to go anywhere – and that has now led to the Red Devils deciding against a move for him.

Higher up the pitch, the Premier League side are determined to add another attacker to their ranks. A recent report has suggested Goncalo Ramos could be one name on their radar, but one of the main talking points has been Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund. The 20-year-old has been on their wishlist for most of the summer and a recent report stated that a bid was being lined up, with the youngster himself eager to switch to Old Trafford.

Are Manchester United signing Rasmus Hojlund?

Now, according to reliable journalist Romano via Caught Offside, it's been revealed that the Serie A side want only cash as part of a potential deal for Hojlund this summer.

The Red Devils are preparing that opening bid it seems, but he's revealed that they originally tried to offer Fred as part of the transfer. It would have meant that United could have offloaded one of their surplus players and only need a smaller fee to get a deal done. Atalanta though have "already rejected" a swap plus cash deal and "made it clear" they are not interested in exchanging players -they want just the fee of around 65 million Euros (or £56.4m).

rasmus-hojlund-man-united-premier-league-transfers

Hojlund may only be early on in his career, but has already received plenty of plaudits for his performances so far. Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has called the striker an "absolute monster in the making" and added that 2023 is "his year".

The attacker then is clearly seen as having a bright future and someone who is already impressing, but can continue to get better. Whether United have to part with just cash or get a deal over the line with players, Hojlund looks like a really exciting capture.

Man Utd Identify "Unbelievable" £26m "Warrior" As Top Target

Manchester United have identified Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat as one of their top summer targets, as Erik ten Hag already has a strong relationship with the midfielder, according to a report.

Who are Man United signing this summer?

Man United have already bolstered their midfield with Mason Mount, who has put pen to paper on a five-year deal after a £55m fee was agreed, but Ten Hag may not want to stop there.

The Red Devils are reportedly "looking at" signing Fiorentina's Amrabat, and they have recently been handed a boost in their pursuit of the midfielder, as the Italian club are now willing to sanction his departure this summer.

With the Serie A side closing in on signing Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who could be a replacement for the Moroccan, the door is open for United to make their move, and there has since been another update on their interest.

While relaying a report from Firenze Viola, Sport Witness now reports that the Fiorentina star is becoming a top target for Man United, with his current club waiting for an offer in the region of €30m (£26m).

However, there may be fierce competition for the 26-year-old's signature, as the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and teams from Saudi Arabia are also named as potential suitors.

There is nothing "concrete" coming from any of the interested parties up to this point, as previous reports stating that United have reached an agreement with the player's entourage are believed to be false.

The Netherlands-born midfielder already has a "strong" relationship with Ten Hag, which could potentially give the Red Devils an advantage in the battle for his signature.

Is Sofyan Amrabat any good?

The Morocco international made a name for himself at the 2022 World Cup, playing in all seven of the matches as the African side embarked on a sensational run to the semi-finals, before eventually losing the third-place play-off against Croatia.

Daily Express journalist Charlie Parker-Turner was wowed by the central midfielder's performances, lauding him as an "unbelievable warrior", while also claiming he was in the conversation for the Player of the Tournament award.

Over the past year, the maestro ranks in the 95th percentile for his pass-completion rate per 90 when compared to his positional peers playing within Europe's top five leagues (as per FBref), however, some questions have to be asked about the impact he has on most games.

Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat

The former Feyenoord man does not offer much in the way of attacking threat, failing to score a single goal for Fiorentina last season, and he arguably fails to offer enough defensively to make up for it, placing in just the 33rd percentile for tackles and the 42nd for interceptions per 90.

Amrabat clearly has a great deal of quality, as he demonstrated at the World Cup, though Man United should have serious reservations about signing him this summer.

Not only are there question marks over his ability, but Ten Hag should probably save the money to spend on strengthening other key positions, with a replacement for the out-of-contract David de Gea still required.

Gillespie, Rogers, Haddin to coach Australia A

The three former players will mentor the Australia A side on its tour of South Africa in July and August

ESPNcricinfo staff12-May-2017Jason Gillespie, Chris Rogers and Brad Haddin will further their coaching ambitions as part of a high-powered support staff to mentor Australia A on their scheduled tour of South Africa in July and August. The tour’s status is somewhat clouded as the first to commence after the June 30 expiry of the current pay deal between CA and the Australian Cricketers Association, with discussions continuing. Mitchell Starc spoke for leading players on Thursday when he said he is not interested in engaging in contract talks with CA until a deal is struck.Aus A tour of SA schedule

Four-day matches:
July 12-15: v South Africa A
July 19-22: Australia A v South Africa A at Senwes Park
Limited-overs series:
July 26: v India A, Tukkies
July 30: v South Africa A, Groenkloof
August 1: v India A, Tukkies
August 5: v South Africa A, Tukkies
August 8: Final, Tukkies

Having previously served as acting head coach of Australia during their recent Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka, Gillespie will helm the tour with assistance from Rogers during the first-class portion of the trip before Haddin subs in for the limited-overs triangular series that also features India A.”I’m thrilled to be appointed as head coach of Australia A for the series against South Africa A and India A, and I’m looking forward to working with Chris and Brad in the coming months,” Gillespie said. “While the squad has yet to be named, it will no doubt feature some of the country’s most talented players, and players challenging for the opportunity to play international cricket for Australia.”This tour will provide those players with the chance to push their claims for those opportunities, and to experience a really high standard of competition and life on the road. It’s a really exciting time to be involved in Australian cricket, and I can’t wait to join up with the squad and head to South Africa.”Pat Howard, the Cricket Australia team performance manager, had previously indicated that the nation’s young batsmen could do with some of the knowhow built up by Rogers over a lengthy first-class career. Having retired from the game last year, Rogers is currently working as an assistant coach with Somerset.”It’s extremely pleasing to have three quality people in Jason, Chris and Brad on-board to guide the Australia A squad in their upcoming Tour of South Africa,” Howard said. “All three have significant experience as players, in varying conditions across the world over their lengthy careers, which will no doubt be invaluable for the players touring with this squad.”Jason has substantial head coaching experience, both with the Adelaide Strikers and in an extremely successful stint as coach of Yorkshire in the England County Championship. He also impressed as an assistant coach of the Australian T20 side earlier this year, so we look forward to seeing what he can achieve with this side.”With Brad and Chris as assistant coaches, Jason will have plenty of support to call on. Brad has also already been involved in the Australian Cricket Team coaching set-up, as an assistant for the tour of South Africa in 2016, while Chris has been involved at underage level, as an assistant coach for the Cricket Australia XI at the under-19 National Championships.”A number of Australia A representatives in 2016, including the likes of Peter Handscomb, Hilton Cartwright and Chris Tremain, made their international debuts during the 2016-17 season, and we believe this coaching panel will help develop more cricketers ready to push for an international debut or a return to international ranks.”

'New Zealand deserved to have a crack at us today' – du Plessis

Faf du Plessis said New Zealand were unfortunate that the final day’s play was washed out, denying them a chance to level the Test series

Firdose Moonda in Hamilton29-Mar-20171:23

Moonda: An intriguing series decided by one hour

When the first drops of rain began falling in the early hours of Wednesday morning, it woke Kane Williamson up.”I was hoping it might stop or it might come a little bit early and fine up,” he said.Faf du Plessis did not say whether he was disturbed or not but if he was, it would have been a pleasant interruption. He knew it was probably the only thing that could save South Africa from defeat.”Everyone would say New Zealand can count themselves very unlucky. The rain has come at a terrible time for them,” du Plessis said. “They dominated this Test match and deserved to have a crack at us today. It’s a real fair assessment to say we’ve been saved by the rain.”The rest of the South African squad would probably also have settled into their sleep a little easier. Although they had high hopes on du Plessis, who had told JP Duminy that he was “going to block for two days,” they knew their resistance would likely end with him too. Quinton de Kock was the only recognised batsmen left and, talented as he is, few expected him to have the restraint to bat out the day.”You can’t expect Quinny to do exactly the same because he will possibly get out doing something like that but he will put pressure on the opposition by scoring like that,” du Plessis said. “If New Zealand had got a wicket early doors it would have been tough for us to get through that.”New Zealand were thinking the same thing. Having had South Africa’s line-up on the ropes in the last two matches, they were finally ready to deliver the knockout punch, despite being without their two premier bowlers. Tim Southee and Trent Boult both sat out injured and, with Ross Taylor also sidelined, New Zealand’s fight over the last four days went down as “one of our best performances of the home summer,” according to Williamson.”The guys picked up the roles they were given with a number of players out and ran with it. There was a great buzz amongst the group, although fairly inexperienced and young, the guys really took it on and had a good time and enjoyed themselves,” Williamson said. “It’s not easy to do at times in Test cricket, against one of the best nations and the contributions from all the boys throughout this match were fantastic.”What could have been has been the theme of the series – the fifth day of the first Test in Dunedin also washed out – and du Plessis wished there could have been another match. “This series has been series of what-ifs,” he said. “You feel like even after this match, there could have been more, because the teams are playing some competitive cricket and for most of the series its been 50-50.”Ultimately it was one hour in Wellington, which Williamson described as a “bad day, but a game-defining day,” that distinguished the victors from the vanquished. A single hour that du Plessis admitted was “similar to what we had yesterday,” when South Africa lost 5 for 46 in Hamilton. There was no play on the final day in Hamilton, just like Dunedin•AFPFor South Africa to have won so narrowly was not ideal, even though it allowed them to accomplish their goal of getting to No.2 on the Test rankings, from No.7 nine months ago. “We didn’t play great cricket but we still won,” du Plessis said. “We had a roadmap of how we can get there and visualised getting there, and we are here today. Although I am disappointed with this Test, it doesn’t take away the unbelievable achievements we’ve had this season.”The form of their top six is a concern, which left them playing with their “backs against the wall most of the time,” as du Plessis put it. They would like to channel more of the opposition captain Williamson.”New Zealand played some good cricket, especially Kane,” du Plessis said. “I would like to congratulate him on a good series. Two hundreds out of three games is extraordinary.”New Zealand also learnt from South Africa. They wanted to be able to take small opportunities and turn them into big results so that they can set the agenda instead of having to fight against it.”You give a team like South Africa an inch and they run with it. That was perhaps a little frustrating but a good learning curve,” Williamson said. “We have the belief and what it takes. It would be nice to not have to bounce back. We do want to be more consistent in that area.”Both teams could be proud of the show they put on in a series played in good spirits despite the weather. Shortly after du Plessis and Williamson passed each other in the corridor and made arrangements for post-series drinks, the drizzle drifted away. For a few minutes, there was sunshine over Seddon Park. Oh, what could have been

Spurs: Levy now "one step away" from signing "monster"

Tottenham Hotspur target Edmond Tapsoba is reportedly 'one step away' from completing a move to the North London side according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti via GIVEMESPORT.

What is the latest Edmond Tapsoba transfer news?

Tapsoba has a market value of €30m (£25.7m) according to Transfermarkt and has two years remaining on his deal, which may force his club Bayer Leverkusen to sell him to maximise the transfer fee they receive.

After upgrading in the goalkeeping department recently, it has been claimed that the North London side have made the 24-year-old their defensive priority, as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his squad even more.

clement-lenglet-tottenham-hotspur-transfer-gossip-postecoglou-barcelona-dier

Spurs have lost Clement Lenglet following the conclusion of his loan spell, which will be a blow for the club as he made 35 appearances last season.

Tapsoba was reportedly joined on the defensive shortlist by Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven and Villarreal defender Pau Torres before his move to Aston Villa.

What has Rudy Galetti said about the potential Edmond Tapsoba transfer?

Speaking on the transfer, Galetti told GIVEMESPORT: “On the table, there are around €25m and the German club is concretely evaluating this proposal. Last winter, Arsenal asked them for him but then now they decide to go for Timber, who is close as well.

So, the Burkina Faso player [Tapsoba], we can say that is one step away from joining Tottenham. In the next few days, they will push and close the deal positively.”

Would Edmond Tapsoba be the right signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

The Burkina-Faso international is one of the most underrated ball-playing and ball-progressive centre-backs, with his 5.76 progressive passes and 1.46 progressive carries ranks him in the top 8% of all central defenders across Europe's top five leagues according to FBref.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Tapsoba enjoyed a fantastic campaign for Die Schwarzroten last season, making 46 appearances and averaging a rating of 6.76 according to Whoscored.

One thing that will surely be high on Ange's list to sort at Tottenham will be the leaky defence, hence the interest in Tapsoba, with a shocking 63 goals being let in under Antonio Conte in the campaign just gone.

This is evident with the fact that the London club are prepared to listen to offers for Eric Dier, who played a part in shipping the high amount of goals, so perhaps Tapsoba could be the man to potentially replace him too.

The 24-year-old would be an incredible start to Tottenham's defensive reinforcements and looks to be the perfect partner for Cristian Romero ahead of the clubs first season under Postecoglu.

Rangers Can Save Millions By Unearthing 19 Y/o Starlet

The summer transfer window is well underway and Glasgow Rangers have been incredibly busy ahead of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership campaign.

Dujon Sterling, Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Abdallah Sima, and Sam Lammers have all joined the club to bolster the squad from last season, while the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Scott Arfield, and Ryan Kent have moved on from Ibrox.

The Daily Record have also claimed that the club are closing in on the signings of Jose Cifuentes, from LAFC, and Cyriel Dessers, from Cremonese, to take the number of new arrivals to seven.

However, Michael Beale could also add to his first-team options by promoting one of the B-Team stars over to the senior group if they impress during pre-season, with Lewis Mayo, Ben Williamson, Cole McKinnon, Kieran Wright, and Arron Lyall all reportedly joining the manager's squad for training this week.

Who is Arron Lyall?

The 19-year-old, who is part of the group of young players attempting to catch the eye of the boss, is an exciting winger who predominantly plays on the right but is also capable of playing on the left or through the middle.

Rangers have been linked with interest in signing a new wide player, with LAFC's Kwadwo Opoku a reported €4.8m (£4.1m) transfer target, and Beale could now save the club millions by unleashing Lyall as a first-team player, preventing the need for a fresh addition from elsewhere.

The teenage wizard, who was described as "exciting" by ex-boss Neil McCann, enjoyed a prolific 2022/23 campaign as he plundered 15 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions, including 13 in 34 Lowland League outings.

Meanwhile, Antonio Colak (14) and James Tavernier (16) were the only senior stars with more league goals, while Malik Tillman was the highest-scoring midfielder with ten.

Rangers manager Michael Beale.

This suggests that the speed demon, whose "terrific" burst of pace was hailed by journalist Jordan Campbell, has the potential to be an excellent wide option for Beale if he can translate his impressive B-Team form over to the Premiership.

He did enough to convince the manager to hand him his debut for Rangers off the bench against Hibernian at the end of last season, which suggests that the 42-year-old tactician views the goalscoring winger as a prospect with the quality to play first-team football.

It's an exciting time to be part of the toward line at Ibrox right now, something that will be boosted by Dessers' arrival. He found the net on ten occasions last term and the 28-year-old, who is now in his prime, could be one of the players to immediately take Lyall under his wing and develop him as a footballer.

It is unlikely the teen will get too many minutes immediately but it could be the start of a fresh new partnership at Ibrox.

Beale must start by offering Lyall enough opportunities to impress in pre-season with a view to increasing his role in the senior side next term, if he can handle the step up to playing at that level on a regular basis.

Such an eventuality could subsequently prevent any need for Rangers to sign a new winger.

Salman Butt's selection shelved in wake of PSL spot-fixing case

Plans to include Salman Butt in the Test squad to tour the West Indies were afoot, but the PCB has decided to shelve them for now in the wake of the PSL spot-fixing affair

Umar Farooq20-Mar-20170:47

Quick Facts – Salman Butt

Plans for an international recall for former Pakistan captain Salman Butt have been shelved for now, in light of the continuing fallout from the recent corruption allegations emanating from the PSL.Butt has no connection to the PSL corruption issue, but his role in the spot-fixing scandal in England in 2010, for which he was banned, has forced a selection rethink ahead of Pakistan’s tour of the West Indies. The PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan had publicly cleared Butt’s potential selection earlier this year, but it appears he will have to wait longer for a comeback.ESPNcricinfo understands Butt was even informed by a selector last month that he was being considered for the national side. But last week he was told that those plans had been set aside for now, as the present circumstances were not ideal for his return.Five players – Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Mohammad Irfan, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed – were provisionally suspended for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the PSL and face various corruption charges. The PCB was thus keen to avoid criticism by recalling Butt, who has not featured for his country since returning to domestic cricket from a five-year ban for corruption.Butt’s name had cropped up in recent selection meetings – headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq – as a reflection of Pakistan’s continuing struggle with opening batsmen. There was reluctance among some members of the management but the proposition wasn’t rejected outright, and the chairman’s clearance was seen as a green signal.Since his return Butt has impressed on the domestic circuit. He was the second-highest run-scorer in the National One-Day Cup with 536 runs at 107.20 in 2015. He resumed his first-class career in 2016, as captain of the WAPDA side which won the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, and scored 749 runs at 49.40 in the season, including twin hundreds in the final. He was also the second highest run-getter in the National T20 Cup last year.Butt was 26 when he was banned, having played 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is. Since then, he has attended anti-corruption rehabilitation programmes conducted by the PCB, taken part in social work and publicly apologised, though he had pleaded his innocence until 2013. Butt, who was Pakistan captain at the time, was also sentenced to 30 months in jail for his part in the Lord’s scandal. The two other players punished at the time, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, have also returned to cricket after completing their bans. Amir has been successfully re-integrated into the national set-up, and so forms a precedent of sorts for any more returns.Butt’s selection had also been mooted ahead of Pakistan’s tour to England in 2016, when the captain Misbah-ul-Haq admitted he was impressed by Butt’s form.”We have a settled line up between numbers three and seven but the opening slot is not as consistent as the rest of the order,” Misbah had told ESPNcricinfo last year. “There are issues and we are looking at a couple more options including Shan Masood and Salman Butt. Salman is playing well and overall I didn’t see any such difference since he left [in 2010]. He is a good prospect and he has also scored ample runs after his comeback.”With an average of 30.46 from 33 Tests, Butt was never prolific at Test level, but a dearth of other options has made Pakistan look towards him again. Ahmed Shehzad has not played a Test since being dropped from the side in 2015 and Masood has struggled to cement his spot at the top of the order. Mohammad Hafeez’s inconsistency has made him a less attractive option at the top.Sami Aslam had impressed with twin fifties in his first Test against England last year but faded away, with only one score above 22 in his last nine innings. Sharjeel’s suspension has deprived Pakistan of yet another opening batsman, and the only bright spark has been Azhar since being pushed up as a makeshift opener.

Aaron's four-for skittles Saurashtra out for 83 in low-scoring match

A round-up of the Group D matches from the Vijay Hazare Trophy played on March 1, 2017

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Mar-2017Four-fors from Varun Aaron (4-20) and medium-pacer Rahul Shukla (4-32) helped Jharkhand defend a total of 125 to beat Saurashtra by 42 runs at Eden Gardens. Saurashtra’s chase lasted only 25.1 overs with all ten wickets falling to pace. Aaron prised out key wickets in the middle order, before Shukla and left-arm seamer Jaskaran Singh cleaned up the tail.Like Saurashtra, Jharkhand, too, lost all their wickets to pace. Kushang Patel carved up the top order, first getting the early wicket of opener Anand Singh and then breaking a 43-run, second-wicket stand to trigger a Jharkhand slump in which they lost nine wickets for 64. Kushang, who was on a hat-trick in the 10th over, finished with 4 for 39, while Shaurya Sanandia cleaned up the lower order for career-best returns of 5 for 47. Jharkhand were propped up by a 40-ball 53 from Ishan Kishan and MS Dhoni’s 24-ball 23.Ashutosh Singh’s 98-ball 65 was in vain as Chhattisgarh suffered a four-run defeat against Hyderabad in Kolkata. Ashutosh’s wicket off the first ball of the final over left Chhattisgarh needing eight runs from five balls, of which they could only manage three. His half-century, however, had helped them rally after they were struggling at 78 for 5 in the 20th over. Ravi Kiran, Chama Milind and Mehdi Hassan and Mohammad Siraj took two wickets each for Hyderabad.Bavanaka Sandeep’s unbeaten 70 off 99 balls was the top score in Hyderabad’s innings as they were bowled out for 197 despite starts from the top order. Three run-outs and a slump in the middle overs – they lost four wickets for eight runs between the 25th and 28th overs – limited Hyderabad’s total.Jammu & Kashmir suffered a 24-run defeat against Services. Chasing 215, J&K were bowled out for 190, having lost their middle order during a four-wicket slide for only 20 runs between the 21st and 27th overs. Puneet Bisht and Ram Dayal resisted for J&K but once Bisht was dismissed for 45, J&K collapsed quickly and were out in the 46th over. Ahmed Bandy top-scored for them with 59 off 65 balls, having contributed heavily at the start. Left-arm spinner Vipin Singh took 3 for 41.Services, too, crumbled in the middle overs, after their top order, particularly Nakul Verma (68) and Shamsher Yadav (52), had done the hard work of establishing a platform with a 99-run partnership for the third wicket. They lost five wickets for only one run between the 37th and 40th overs, collapsing from 164 for 2 to 169 for 7, before eventually being bowled out for 214. Parvez Rasool took 3 for 36 while Mohammed Mudhasir and Manzoor Dar took two wickets each.

Aston Villa Free Agent Transfer Agrees Terms To Join After Pau Torres

Aston Villa have agreed personal terms to bring West Bromwich Albion starlet Rico Richards to the Premier League, according to reports.

Who is Rico Richards?

Richards is naturally an attacking midfielder who is an academy product at the Hawthorns and has predominantly been a regular feature of the U21s, who he’s registered a total of 55 appearances for. He’s only ever made two senior outings for the Baggies.

The 19-year-old’s contract also expires this Friday and West Brom have confirmed that he has been released and will therefore be leaving the club as a free agent, something which has alerted Unai Emery across the Midlands.

Football Insider previously reported that the Villans were in advanced talks to sign the teenager and it was stated that the recruitment team were confident of striking a deal, and reports on Friday then revealed good news on another deal, as an agreement has been struck to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal.

Are Aston Villa signing Richards?

The good news keeps coming for Villa fans, as according to another update from Football Insider, Richards has "agreed personal terms" to complete a summer switch to Aston Villa.

NSWE and Monchi are "closing in" on a deal for the talented prospect having "finalised" the smaller details of a contract with the player himself which is seen as a "key development" in the move. He is now set to join Torres as their next two signings of the summer.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery.

With Richards being just 19 years of age, it’s unclear as to whether Aston Villa would slot him into the youth setup or give him a chance to prove himself in the first-team, but regardless, the attacking midfielder could bring a fantastic prolific threat and securing him for the cost of nothing is an absolute bargain.

In the Premier League 2, West Brom’s left-footed gem posted nine goal contributions (five assists and four goals) in 19 appearances last season and has been hailed a “technician” in the centre of the park by Data Analyst Tom Williams.

England U17s former international would also add wonderful versatility to the club’s ranks having operated in seven various positions since the start of his career, including three roles in the midfield and all across the frontline, which will be another attractive attribute to the boss.

Richards is a creative individual who has excellent “close control, fast dribbling ability and presence in front of goal” according to the Baggies’ official website, so he would be an extremely promising recruit for the long-term future at Villa Park.

Barbados in semis after thrilling win

A round-up of the Group B matches in the WICB Regional Super 50 2016-17 played on February 5, 2017

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Feb-2017Barbados pulled off a two-wicket win over Guyana in a low-scoring match at Bridgetown’s Three Ws Oval to seal a semi-final spot in the Regional Super50. Chasing 187, Barbados’ Kevin Stoute (51) and Shai Hope (63) consolidated their chase in a 70-run second-wicket stand but Raymon Reifer’s four wickets kept Guyana in the hunt.Barbados collapsed from 119 for 2 to 180 for 8 and went into the last over needing six runs, before Carlos Brathwaite (11*) and Jomel Warrican (2*) helped them cross the target with three balls to spare. Earlier, Guyana were all out for 186 off the last ball of their innings, failing to recover from a position of 100 for 5 after Ashley Nurse’s three wickets at the top. Six Guyana batsmen scored 18 runs or more but their top score came from Veerasammy Permaul , who scored 32 at no. 9.Jamaica defended 204 against Combined Campuses & Colleges in Bridgetown courtesy a spirited bowling effort led by Nikita Miller, who took 3 for 12 from nine overs. Miller’s haul saw CCC slip from 124 for 5 to 130 for 8, before they folded on 160 to give Jamaica a 44-run win that took them to second place in Group B.Jamaica reached 204 after fifties from Jermaine Blackwood (51) and Andre McCarthy (51), and a late surge from Jerome Taylor (41). Between these knocks, CCC took regular wickets to keep Jamaica in check. They lost their first two wickets for 26 and then slipped from 109 for 2 to be bowled out in the 46th over. Offspinners Mark Deyal and Vikash Mohan took three wickets each. For CCC, their top score came from the extras conceded by Jamaica (30, of which 24 were wides). Cassius Burton (28), Amir Jangoo (24) and Mark Deyal (21) got starts but, with regular wickets falling, Jamaica completed a win in the 42nd over.
