If last night’s 4-0 win for Celtic was the only Hoops game that incoming manager Eddie Howe had ever seen, it’s likely Ryan Christie would be part of the club’s future.

Sorry folks, but the Scot actually looked much improved while playing in a central position for the Bhoys on Wednesday evening.

In fact, Celtic as a whole looked a lot more promising. The Glaswegian’s have endured a torrid season but on Scott Brown’s farewell to Paradise, they put in a performance the midfield veteran would be proud of.

John Kennedy’s men swept aside St Johnstone 4-0 in a clash that for once, put a smile back on the player’s faces.

Brown may not have been lifting the Premiership title but there were plenty of positives on Wednesday to think that a brighter future is possible at Celtic.

The fact Christie even stood out said a lot.

The Scotland international has had a torrid campaign and has been relentlessly hounded by members of the Green Brigade for his shooting.

With James Forrest out injured for such a long period of time, the attacker was forced to play in a wide position, away from his favoured area centrally.

Last season Christie produced 20 goals and 16 assists but 2020/21 has been incredibly unkind to him. The 26-year-old has scored just seven times in comparison and has only found the net twice in his last 23 league outings.

That said, when afforded the chance to play through the middle against St Johnstone, he took the opportunity with aplomb.

Christie’s goal drought wasn’t ended but alongside David Turnbull in midfield – someone who did find the net – he looked incredibly comfortable.

There will be tougher and sterner tests to come but Christie was one of Celtic’s most important players.

The vast majority of the play came through him with the attacking midfielder having more touches (126) than any other player on the field. Meanwhile, Christie’s tally of 97 passes was only third to the centre-back pairing of Stephen Welsh and Kristoffer Ajer.

Keen as ever to get on the ball and make things happen, the Scot provided three key passes; the same number as James Forrest and one fewer than Turnbull.

Christie has been torn apart this term but instead of looking to score from impossible positions on the field, he looked to create more for his teammates on Wednesday. The fact he picked up his fourth assist in his last seven games was a testament to that.

It’s hard to suggest his performance was out of this world but judging by some of the other displays we’ve seen from him this term, it was a great improvement.

If Christie is in the shop window ahead of a potential summer move, he will have done his cause no harm here.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has exclusively told Football FanCast that he wants to see teenage sensation Carney Chukwuemeka given first-team opportunities moving forward.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who’s a target for both Manchester United and City, has been on the bench for Villa twice this season, although he’s yet to make his senior debut.

Chukwuemeka was an unused substitute against both Leicester and Manchester City having caught Dean Smith’s eye following some impressive performances in the FA Youth Cup.

He followed up his brace against Burton with a hat-trick against Newcastle, and has also gained valuable experience by playing 90 minutes on two occasions in the EFL Trophy earlier this season.

Despite the first-team’s victory at Everton on Saturday, Smith’s team are likely to fall short in their bid for European football, with the gap to seventh-placed Liverpool currently six points.

And Hendrie wants Chukwuemeka, who’s scored seven times and provided five assists in 22 outings this term, to be given some minutes in Villa’s five remaining Premier League matches.

He told Football FanCast:

“I kind of go off the fans’ views – I know he’s been scoring goals in the Under-18s. When someone is scoring goals, they’ve showed they’re a massive threat, it does attract football clubs and when you’re getting Manchester City and United hovering around the vicinity and are trying to take the young players away.

“This is where I feel if he’s that good we need to see him filtered through to the first team especially at this stage of the season.

“We’ve seen the likes of Louie Barry, who I felt would have had more of a chance this season, and I would put him in that category. I’d like to see more of him playing, because if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.”

A tarde de sexta-feira (28) foi especial para alguns funcionários do Corinthians.que fizeram a inscrição no projeto Alfabetização Solidária, da Responsabilidade Social do clube, em parceria com o Colégio Amorim. Eles receberam o material escolar para começar as aulas, que serão iniciadas no dia 09 de março.

O Timão forneceucadernos, lápis, borrachas e canetas, além de uma mochila oficial, para que os 20 inscritos do projeto. Eles terão uma sala reservada e aulas de língua portuguesa e matemática.

Além disso, o clube fornecerá transporte desses alunos, com saída do Parque São Jorge até o colégio e após a aula, do colégio até a estação de metrô. Vale ressaltar que o horário das aulasserão de segunda a sexta-feira, das 17h às 21h. O curso tem duração de um ano e meio.

Celtic and Newcastle United are both reported to be keen on signing Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy over the coming months.  

As to be expected, plenty of Eagles fans have been reacting to the two club’s reported interest in the 30-year-old.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are looking to pip Celtic to a deal for the Irishman, with the Scottish giants coming close to landing the player on a pre-contract agreement back in January.

McCarthy, who is on £50,000-a-week at Selhurst Park, is out of contract in a matter of months. He has made just 49 appearances since joining in 2019, with 14 of those coming this season.

The midfielder began the campaign as a regular under Roy Hodgson, but he has since fallen out of favour and a Palace exit appears to be on the cards.

Para Diniz, o time estava sem o controle do meio-campo e ficou travado na defesa, sem conseguir sair. Dessa forma, ele precisaria reconquistar o domínio no meio e para isso, pensou em colocar um jogador que pudesse preencher o setor da maneira que ele pensou que poderia surtir efeito. Liziero substituiu Alexandre Pato aos 41 minutos da etapa final. Segundo o técnico, o Tricolor já tem uma equipe ofensiva, mesmo sem enchê-la de atacantes.

-Precisávamos do domínio no meio-campo e tirar o time de trás. A engrenagem tem que rodar como um todo. O time ia criar mais condições de ganhar mesmo tirando um “camisa 9”. Futebol não é matemática, se não colocaria dez atacantes e ia fazer gol. Não é isso. Everton have been tipped to make a stunning summer swoop for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

El Chiringuito TV report that Carlo Ancelotti wants a reunion with Bale at Goodison Park, having worked with him at the Santiago Bernabeu – Bale has spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, having fallen out of favour with Zinedine Zidane after Ancelotti’s exit.

A hat-trick against relegated Sheffield United at the weekend took the Welshman to nine Premier League goals for the season.

That’s more than any Everton player excluding Dominic Calvert-Lewin (15).

In total, Bale has scored 14 goals in all competitions, posting an impressive minutes per goal record of 105 (via Transfermarkt).

Bale, who will turn 32 in July, has just over a year left on his Real Madrid contract and is valued at £18million by Transfermarkt because of this.

He said during the March international break that his plan was to return to the Spanish capital at the end of the season, so it a long-term deal to stay in north London appears unlikely.
