The Verdict: Harsh

The criticism of O’Nien seems harsh as he was one of SAFC’s better players on the night.

Yes, he was guilty of giving possession away no fewer than 15 times in total, and also made two fouls, no dribbles or key passes (SofaScore), but the central midfield player at least put a shift in for his team and improved as the game went on.

O’Nien won 11 individual duels, more than anyone else on the pitch, and also recorded two tackles, one clearance and interception, while he himself was fouled five times, again more than any other player, as SofaScore gave him a respectable 6.9/10 overall rating.

Nonetheless, he looks to have secured his starting place as Alex Neil’s side face Morecambe away from home on the final day.

With safety in the Premier League all but guaranteed this season, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are sure to be looking for a statement signing at St. James’ Park in the summer to really kickstart the new era, much like the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon in the January transfer window.

Osimhen could well be that signing, having scored 17 goals with a further six assists in total over all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt).

He is sure to be in demand by some of Europe’s top clubs, with Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly both preparing moves already, so swooping in and bringing him to Tyneside would be a big show of ambition.

The Latest: Offer readied

As per Calciomercato, the North East club are ‘especially’ interested in signing Osimhen this summer, having tried to sign him in January.

They are ‘ready’ to guarantee him a salary of between €8-9m (£6.7-£7.6m) per season, which would make him their highest-paid player, but he would cost a whopping €100m (£84.4m), a club-record transfer fee.

The Verdict: Worth the risk

Of course, spending that much money on one player presents a lot of risk, but at 23 years of age, Osimhen has the potential to become one of the world’s best in his position.

Described as ‘unplayable’ by journalist Zach Lowy, and a ‘warrior‘ by his manager Luciano Spalletti, the Nigeria international certainly has a lot of admirers, and so this will by no means be an easy deal to do.

Likened to Mo Salah in terms of his importance to Napoli compared to the Egyptian’s significance at Anfield by Serie A legend Jose Altafini, signing Osimhen would no doubt be a big coup for the Tyneside outfit, should they be able to pull it off.

Tamim Iqbal’s explosive 95 blew away Zimbabwe on a slow Chittagong pitch on which the visitors had limped to 188 for 6, giving Bangladesh a six-wicket victory and a sixth-consecutive series win over Zimbabwe. On a track where the rest of the batsmen managed ten boundaries, Tamim clattered seven sixes and five fours after starting cautiously and surviving some anxious moments. Despite three of the top five batsmen contributing 13 runs between them, and Junaid Siddique taking 105 deliveries to reach a half-century, Tamim’s charge allowed Bangladesh to canter to victory as they took the series 3-1.He had curbed his natural attacking instincts after Imrul Kayes fell to the fourth delivery of the chase, before opening up with a pull over square leg off Chris Mpofu in the seventh over. Mpofu’s next over was an example of how the chase progressed – in sporadic spurts amid fortuitous let-offs. Tamim responded by moving from 50 to 95 in 34 deliveries, smashing five more sixes before falling while attempting yet another six, holing out to Graeme Cremer who took a diving catch running in from the deep midwicket boundary. By then, however, Bangladesh needed only 50 off 21 overs.Taibu and Craig Ervine had earlier put on Zimbabwe’s highest partnership of the series but their progress was painfully slow, before a late charge in the batting Powerplay took the visitors to 188 on a surface that didn’t turn much. A desordem foi ocasionada por torcedoresque estavam em ônibus desceram dos veículos e depredaram casas e estabelecimentos comerciais, que eram conduzidos à rodovia.

A diretoria Alviverde explicou que luta sempre contra essas atitudes e complementou e queações sociais promovidas pelo departamento de marketing foram realizadas no domingo de manhã. Além disso, os dirigentes explicaram que o clube não banca viagens e nem fornece ingressos à torcida.

Assim como a Casa Lar, instituições de caridade de todas as cidades que estão representadas no Campeonato Goiano – Goiânia, Aparecida de Goiânia, Anápolis, Itumbiara, Rio verde e Iporá, receberão as camisas utilizadas na partida para que possam utilizar as mesmas para angariar fundos.

A instituição Casa Lar recebeu ainda material para a pintura de sua sede, as tintas foram oferecidas Leinertex, e as crianças ganharam roupas de presente da Balada Júnior, todos parceiros do Goiás. Além disso, as crianças que residem na Casa Lar foram assistiram à partida entre Iporá e Goiás no estádio Ferreirão.

É importante ressaltar que:

1) O Goiás realiza trabalhos para inclusão de seus torcedores, mas não patrocina viagens e não fornece ingressos de seus jogos à sua torcida.

2) O Goiás Esporte Clube tem lutado diuturnamente para que as famílias estejam de volta as praças esportivas, que o futebol volte a exercer um dos seus principais objetivos, que é a inclusão e a interação social.

Por isso, cenas como as que foram vistas no último domingo não são toleradas.
