The Athletic’s Phil Hay has dropped an update on Leeds United star Raphinha ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

What’s the story?

The winger has been caught up in the controversy that has seen Brazil look to ban several of its top players from turning out for their Premier League sides this weekend as a response to them not being made available for their international games over this past week.

And now, Hay has admitted that Marcelo Bielsa’s side look set to be without their Brazilian talisman against the Reds, although the ruling is also set to affect the Merseysiders as well.

He said: “Very much looking like FIFA will try and enforce a ban on Raphinha for not travelling to Brazil. Would affect Liverpool (Alisson etc) this weekend too. What a mess.”

Fans will be gutted

Make no mistake about it, Bielsa and the club’s fans will be absolutely gutted over missing Raphinha versus Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Brazilian has been a real breath of fresh air in the Premier League with the way he has adjusted to life in English football, scoring six times and providing a further nine assists in the top flight last season.

Raphinha’s displays had Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford hailing him after the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace earlier in the campaign, with the Englishman saying on Sky Sports: “I think, to be honest, he has been a steal for Leeds. I am surprised. As soon as he came in, you saw him in training, you know sometimes with players whether they are good or they are top class, and he really was. He stood out straightaway.

“I am surprised that bigger teams, more established Premier League teams I should say, haven’t taken a punt on him because he really is someone special, and he is young.”

While it is certainly only a small sample size, in the four games in which Raphinha did not feature last season, Leeds did not win, including disappointing defeat to the likes of Brighton and Leicester.

Given that he’s started all three of Leeds’ games this campaign, missing one of the Whites’ key performers for a game as big as the one against Liverpool on Sunday, is sure to have everybody gutted.

وكانت فرق ريال مدريد من أوروبا والوداد المغربي من إفريقيا وسياتل ساوندرز عن أمريكا الشمالية، وذلك بالإضافة لأبطال قارات أوقيانوسيا وآسيا وأمريكا الجنوبية الذين لم يتحددوا بعد، سيلعبون في النسخة المقبلة من المونديال.

وذكرت صحيفة المنتخب المغربية، أنه ربما يتم إلغاء كأس العالم للأندية في نسختها الجديدة بسبب الشروطة القوية التي وضعها الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم “فيفا”على أي دولة تقرر استضافة المسابقة بدفع 25 مليون دولار كرسوم غير مستردة.

وأوضحت الصحيفة أن فيفا طالبت الدولة المستضيفة بتحمل تكاليف الفرق السبعة المشاركة من سكن ومواصلات ومعيشة، مع توفير أربعة فنادق من فئة 5 نجوم، وسبعة ملاعب للتدريبات إضافة إلى ملعبين رئيسيين لإقامة المباريات الرسمية.

ولم تتقدم أي دولة للترشح لاستضافة البطولة الدولية حتى الآن، وهو ما يهدد إقامتها، ويهدد بالتالي مشاركة الوداد الرياضي الذي يرغب في تسجيل حضوره فيها بعد غياب طويل.

واختتمت الصحيفة في تقريرها أنه من الممكن أن يعجز “فيفا” عن إيجاد مستضيف للمسابقة ما لم يتنازل عن بعد الشروط التي حددها، وإلا سيتم إلغاءها.

يذكر، أن الأهلي تمكن من الفوز بالميدالية البرونزية في نسختي مونديال الأندية الماضيتين 2021-2022.

Carille e Mano tentaram novas opções com Clayson, Giovanni Augusto, Rafael Sóbis e Rafael Marques, mas o panorama pouco mudou: tentativa de pressão do Cruzeiro e defesa segura do Corinthians que, nas palavras de seu técnico, “sabe sofrer”. Pablo, o mesmo que quase marcou o segundo, salvou o primeiro do Cruzeiro em chute de Alisson já aos 35 do segundo tempo, e Cássio defendeu boa chance de Diogo Barbosa. Pressão! Bom para o Timão é que seu “capitán” já havia resolvido tudo.

Agora, o Corinthians entra em campo no domingo, às 11h, contra o Coritiba, no Couto Pereira. Já o Cruzeiro tentará se reabilitar somente na segunda-feira, quando recebe o Grêmio no Mineirão, às 20h.

The Nuno Santo era could not have got off to a more perfect start for Tottenham Hotspur.

Once again, it’s Harry Kane that sits near the top of the creativity charts, despite being their striker and only starting one game. Only one other player has averaged more than one key pass per game, as per WhoScored.

Nuno has trusted Dele Alli to start in a more advanced role in midfield but he’s yet to provide a key chance and is still some way off his 2016/17 form that saw him register 18 goals and seven assists in just one season.

Spurs’ next Alli could be found in Dilan Markanday, who just last week scored a hat-trick for the U23 squad.

According to the club’s official website, the 20-year-old gem is a ‘clever attacking midfielder who normally plays on the right’ – in some ways, this is similar to the Englishman under Mauricio Pochettino.

Furthermore, Markanday has earned a comparison to former academy star Marcus Edwards.

“Markanday has looked bright today. Have always felt he has a very similar running and dribbling style to Marcus Edwards,” football.london’s Alasdair Gold said. He also praised him when Spurs’ U19s faced Inter Milan in 2018.

“Inter are struggling to deal with Dilan Markanday. His dribbling and passing ability is pulling their defence and midfield all over the place.”

Spurs have only scored three goals in their opening three games, so it’s this sort of presence that is required in the no.10 role. Nuno should consider unleashing the U23 sensation and in doing so, he may well discover the next Alli in north London.
