Lingard’s agents watched Newcastle clash

Pete Graves has provided an update on England international Jesse Lingard, relating to Newcastle’s pursuit of his services.

What’s the talk?

According to the Sky Sports journalist, the Manchester United man’s agents were in attendance for the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat to Tottenham as they are keeping a close eye on developments at the club.

He wrote: “I understand Lingard’s representatives were at St James’s Park yesterday keeping an eye on developments at #nufc.”

Lingard has been linked with a potential switch to St. James’ Park following PIF’s takeover of the club, with the January window just over two months away.

Fans will be buzzing

Newcastle fans will surely be left buzzing by this update from Graves as it suggests that there is potential interest from Lingard’s side to get a deal done. The initial Telegraph report stated that it was unclear whether or not the midfielder would be keen on the switch, but this latest development indicates that he is actively considering it by sending the relevant people to St. James’ Park.

The supporters will be delighted by that because Lingard is a proven Premier League performer who could come in and improve the team. He has shown throughout his career that he can score and assist goals, with 29 goals and 17 assists in 153 matches at Premier League level – mainly playing for United.

Last season, Lingard scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 games on loan to West Ham in the top-flight, which means that he has a recent track record of performing to a high level.

United icon Andy Cole also hailed Lingard’s infectious nature earlier this year, hailing the impact he has on others. He said:

“I think Jesse has come back with that bit between his teeth. He has got the goal, but it is not just about the goal – it is his work rate as well.

“I think his work rate can become infectious. He is putting himself about, getting in the right areas – and getting himself a goal as well.”

Therefore, he could provide quality in the final third whilst also working hard off the ball to harass the opposition and drive his teammates on. This is why Newcastle fans will be delighted that he appears to be exploring the possibility of a transfer to Tyneside ahead of the January window.

LFC fans want Reds to sign Harvey Barnes

A number of Liverpool fans are calling for the Reds to sign Harvey Barnes after he scored in Leicester City’s Europa League clash with Napoli.

Jurgen Klopp is arguably a little light in terms of attacking options in his squad, especially with Roberto Firmino currently out injured.

It was frustrating not to see Liverpool add depth in that area during the summer transfer window and it could potentially become an issue as the season progresses.

One player the Reds were linked with as a target in the summer was Barnes, who has become a key player for Leicester under former Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.

On Thursday night, the winger scored in the Foxes’ draw 2-2 with Napoli at the King Power Stadium, as he continues to shine.

Exclusive: Pundit floats PL striker as option for Liverpool

Former Premier League striker Nigel Jemson has suggested that both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane could become targets for Liverpool next summer.

The Reds kept their powder largely dry throughout the transfer window, with their only first-team signing being the defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The club opted against bringing in a new striker, with Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota remaining their main options up front.

Next summer could be a huge one for players leaving their clubs, particularly those who are marquee names.

Haaland’s release clause of £68m becomes active next summer, meaning that there could be a scramble for his signature from a number of top European clubs.

The Norway international has been in electric form this season, scoring 11 goals in just eight games in all competitions.

And Kane could again be at the centre of a transfer saga after he failed to move to Manchester City after Euro 2020.

Thus, Jemson believes both could become options for the Reds.

Asked about whether Liverpool could spend big on a striker, he said: “You look at Haaland, where he’s going to be, he’s obviously got a clause in his contract next year. Kane. Is his destination City next year? Has Levy said ‘give me one season, you can go for sixty, seventy, eighty million’, whatever it may be?”

Spurs want to sign Dusan Vlahovic

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic this summer, although any potential move will hinge on the future of Harry Kane.

What’s the story?

According to Italian outlet La Repubblica (as relayed by Sport Witness), Spurs ‘still insist on Vlahovic’ as the club’s hierarchy search for potential successors for the wantaway Kane.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester City throughout the summer, and the report claims that the Cityzens are also interested in Vlahovic if they can’t land the England captain in the current window.

Tottenham fans will be buzzing

After joining Fiorentina from boyhood club Partizan Belgrade in 2018, Vlahovic has established himself as one of the most promising young strikers in Serie A following an incredible 2020/21 campaign. The £36m-rated gem bagged 21 goals and provided two assists in 37 Serie A appearances last term, attracting the attention of some of the continent’s biggest clubs.

In a recent interview with This Is Futbol, Serie A expert Conor Clancy revealed his admiration for Vlahovic despite not having a good first impression of the 21-year-old marksman.

He said: “(He’s) incredible, and it really caught me by surprise because I’d seen him play in the flesh a few times, and he scored a great goal against Inter and there was a lot of hype in Florence about him. People were saying this guy’s the real deal, and I just couldn’t see it.”

After seeing him flourish in Florence, Clancy went into more detail regarding the Serbia international’s key attributes, explaining what Spurs can expect should they make a move for Vlahovic this summer.

“He’s just a complete number nine, and I know it’s just off the back of one season, but he’s strong, can link play up, can hold the ball up, and most importantly, he’s scoring goals. He’s one of those players that when he looks confident, you almost expect him to score every time he plays,” he concluded.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that Tottenham’s new director of football Fabio Paratici is plotting a potential move for the highly-rated Fiorentina gem.

While Kane’s exit would be met with hysteria in certain sections of the Spurs fanbase, a large section will be buzzing to learn of their keen interest in a potential world-class finisher such as Vlahovic. His arrival could mark a new chapter in the club’s history, and it could be the beginning of a bright future, one which might leave Spurs fans buzzing.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs looking to sell Cameron Carter-Vickers

Tottenham Hotspur are working to sell centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal, with multiple clubs said to be in discussions for his signature ahead of the transfer deadline [Football Insider].

The Lowdown: Carter-Vickers has been a peripheral figure during his time at Spurs

On the periphery at Spurs for much of his career, the 23-year-old has managed just five senior appearances since coming through the ranks [Transfermarkt].

He has become something of a journeyman in the last few years, featuring for no fewer than six clubs on loan from Tottenham in the form of Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and AFC Bournemouth.

Now, he could finally be set for a permanent exit in the final hours of tonight’s window.

The Latest: Source claims Spurs working on exit

As documented by a source close to Tottenham Hotspur at Football Insider, the Lilywhites are actively looking to move the United States international on tonight, with his services being deemed as surplus to requirements in N17.

Various sides are believed to have held talks over a transfer, which could be easier than usual to facilitate with his contract in north London set to expire next summer.

The Verdict: Win-win

Unlikely to ever become a regular in the Tottenham Hotspur first-team, selling the 6-foot ace may be the most agreeable course of action for the Premier League giants and player himself, providing a small cash injection after an expensive window.

In his time at AFC Bournemouth in 2020/21, the aggressive defender made an impression with his ability to win aerial tussles, managing to record an average of 2.8 per fixture in the Sky Bet Championship [WhoScored].

Earning adulation on his Spurs debut back in 2016 against Gillingham in a 5-0 League Cup victory, former teammate Jan Vertonghen labelled the Southend-on-Sea man as an “absolute beast” due to his excellent display [ESPN via Football Insider].

However, he has never managed to kick on to featuring frequently with Tottenham and looks likely to have played his last game for the club.

Celtic: Odsonne Edouard a doubt for Jablonec second-leg

Odsonne Edouard suffered an injury shortly after Celtic’s 6-0 win over Dundee on Sunday, The Daily Record report.

The Lowdown: Exit latest

Edouard has featured in every competitive game under Ange Postecoglou this season but is still thought to be working on a Parkhead exit after a move to Leicester City fell through earlier this summer.

Brighton are the favourites to land the 23-year-old, with Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and AS Roma also interested.

The Daily Record believe his future could be resolved by the end of the week, however, the forward recently suffered an injury at Parkhead.

The Latest: Edouard’s injury

According to The Daily Record, Edouard, who scored his first of the season from the penalty spot, picked up a knock during the warm down after the final whistle.

The report doesn’t specify the severity of Edouard’s injury, but they do believe he is a major doubt for Celtic’s Europa League qualifier second-leg against Jablonec.

The Verdict: Last time we’ve seen Edouard in a Celtic shirt?

With an injury and transfer update in one provided by The Daily Record, Sunday could well have been the last time Hoops fans will see Edouard in a Celtic shirt.

He could be missing completely on Thursday and may well have his future wrapped up by the end of the week.

Thomas Henry looks likely to be the man to replace Edouard, so it’s good to see Celtic already putting plans in place without their centre-forward.

Newcastle journalist makes Joelinton claim ahead of new season

Newcastle United journalist Liam Kennedy believes that the club are happy with Joelinton after his adaptation to life in England.

The striker has struggled at times during his time with the Magpies and has not exactly been a prolific presence up front.

The Brazilian made 31 appearances in the Premier League last season and scored just four goals, while providing two assists.

It remains to be seen how many minutes the 24-year-old will have this term, after Callum Wilson was signed from Bournemouth last summer.

But Kennedy believes that the club are confident he has the ability to provide proper back-up to Wilson this season, after showing signs of improvement in the back-end of the season.

He said: “Joelinton is a player who is starting to get used to the physical aspect of the English game. And I think from March onwards last year, we actually started to see a player where you’d say ‘he can add value to the team’, so I think they’re okay with having him as a stand-in.”

Joelinton has scored a total of 10 goals in 80 games for the club, and has never hit double figures in a single campaign, while also laying on seven assists.

Steve Bruce’s side begin their season against West Ham United this weekend.

Howey convinced Gilmour would’ve been good Newcastle business

Signing Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour would have been “a good piece of business” for Newcastle United this summer, the club’s former player Steve Howey exclusively told Football FanCast.

Gilmour is currently on loan at Norwich City for the season but was linked with a move to St. James’ Park prior to linking up with Daniel Farke’s side.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle were keen on both Gilmour and Tammy Abraham as they looked to do business with Chelsea.

In the end, though, Gilmour opted for Norwich, while Newcastle are now being linked with another young Chelsea midfielder in Conor Gallagher.

The Athletic reports that the Magpies are interested in signing the 21-year-old, though they face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Leeds United and Crystal Palace.

Howey, however, has made it clear that Gilmour is the one he really wanted to see at St. James’ Park.

“A good piece of business would have been the other lad, Gilmour,” the ex-Newcastle central defender said as he discussed the speculation surrounding Gallagher. “He would have been a great piece of business.

“Now, without being disrespectful to Norwich, you’d have thought Newcastle would have been a great option for him.”

Newcastle have also missed out on recent target Mario Lemina following his move from Southampton to Nice, so reinforcing the midfield is proving to be a tricky task for Steve Bruce this transfer window.

Nottingham Forest: Reds eye Josh Laurent

Nottingham Forest are interested in Reading midfielder Josh Laurent, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

What’s the story?

Laurent has just one year remaining on his current contract with Reading, and it remains to be seen as to whether he’ll sign a new deal with the Berkshire-based side at this stage of the summer.

The midfielder had previously been on the books of League One side Shrewsbury Town, and caught the eye with some strong displays in Salop.

Reading signed him in the summer of 2020, and Laurent has gone on to feature regularly for the Royals ever since, whilst striking up an impressive partnership with fellow midfielder Andy Rinomhota.

High-praise from Royals boss

Laurent signed for Reading on a free transfer, so any fee involved over a potential move to Nottingham Forest would be a profit for the Royals ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Reading’s financial restrictions have been well-documented in recent seasons, with Veljko Paunovic recently revealing that some key players could still follow Omar Richards and Michael Olise out of the exit door at the Select Car Leasing Stadium before the summer transfer window reaches a conclusion.

Forest could potentially be fighting a losing battle in their efforts to re-sign James Garner on loan for the new league campaign, with the Manchester United midfielder catching the eye with a number of strong displays in his loan spell at the City Ground last term.

Garner had an average Whoscored rating of 6.98, which puts him top of the list when it comes to Nottingham Forest’s best performers during the 2020/21 season, which certainly makes for good reading for a player that only spent the second-half of the season with Chris Hughton’s side.

Garner had a pass success rate of 80.9%, whilst also averaging two tackles and 1.7 interceptions per game during last year’s campaign.

Laurent, who earns wages of £3,100 per-week, according to Salary Sport. has made a similar impact with Reading in his brief spell with the club to date, with the midfielder having an average Whoscored rating of 6.88 from last year’s campaign, as Reading finished seventh in the Championship table.

The midfielder plays a similar role to that of what Garner did with Forest, with the midfielder displaying his defensive side of the game, as well as showing that he’s comfortable in possession.

Laurent averaged two tackles per game, whilst also chipping in with an average of 1.4 interceptions for the Royals last term. The former Shrewsbury midfielder also had a pass success rate of 83.6% for Reading last term, and that’ll be a statistic that makes for strong reading for Nottingham Forest, as they target a move for the 26-year-old.

Reading boss Veljko Paunovic has previously praised Laurent for a ‘fantastic’ season whilst with the club last term, in an interview with the club’s official website.

“He’s had a fantastic season, I’m very happy for him and proud of his achievements. He’s worked hard and I think he has benefitted from the huge amount of personality he has.”

Forest’s supporters should be buzzing over this potential deal, as Laurent has certainly shown that he can perform to a high standard in the Championship, and he could prove to be the ideal alternative to Garner this summer.

Gers fans livid at Keevins tweet

Glasgow Rangers fans were livid with a tweet from journalist Hugh Keevins after it was revealed the Gers will start charging reporters to cover the Ibrox outfit.

The Gers have had a trouble relationship with the mainstream media in Scotland in recent years – Club 1872, a fan supporters group, have been forced to file and IPSO complaint previously, while the fans have had run-ins with journalists such as Keith Jackson or Graham Spiers.

It seems the 55-time Scottish champions are looking to take matters into their own hands. As reported by The Mail’s Mike Keegan, the Gers will start charging reports as much as £25,000 for them to cover matches at Ibrox and also speak to Steven Gerrard, the manager. Keevins didn’t appear too happy, suggesting the move was like asking bus drivers to pay their employers to drive the bus.

Keevins shared his thoughts on Twitter, and his comments attracted the attention of the Gers supporters – they were very unhappy, with many saying that Rangers do not work for the media or vice versa. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Keevins tweet below

“You can disagree and challenge the idea but that’s an absurd comparison. The media don’t work for Rangers.”

Credit: @AMcKellar89

“That’s a really poor analogy is it not?”

Credit: @JHC17626935

“What a preposterous analogy. Douglas Park’s bus drivers are employees of Douglas Park. You and your colleagues are not employees of Rangers.”

Credit: @RossMcFarlane1

“The coach drivers are employees of Parks of Hamilton. The journalists are not employees of Rangers, but do make money for their organisation by performing a task which is already done in house by Rangers. A ridiculous false equivalence.”

Credit: @chelt_lad

“This is arguably the worst analogy I’ve seen from you not involving Nuremberg. That in itself is remarkable.”

Credit: @angryscotsman81

“Stupid analogy – the press are not employed by Rangers. I’d much rather get my news straight from my club anyway. Most media outlets derive their news from social media platforms these days and quality sports journalism is very rare – particularly in Scotland.”
